The Netherlands, But Not as You Know It: Five New Reasons to Cross the Channel

From beach houses hugged by sand and sea to private-pool villas deep in castle country — discover Landal's newest Dutch escapes.

Landal’s five new Dutch resorts make their debut - each rooted in a different aspect of the landscape.

Whether you want coastal simplicity or the deep quiet of an ancient forest, or something in between, discover these new Landal resorts - all a short flight or ferry crossing from the UK!

Landal Zeezigt, Petten aan Zee, Holland, The Netherlands (Now open)

There are beach resorts, and then there is Landal Zeezigt. 50 timber beach houses sit directly on the sand at Petten aan Zee, meaning there are just a few steps between your terrace, the sand, and the North Sea horizon. The design is quietly Scandinavian: large windows, neutral tones, natural materials, and with unique details like outdoor kitchens with Green Egg BBQs.

You will be staying on the edge of nature reserves like the Petten dunes and Het Zwanenwater, where peace and quiet are a given. Come spring, the surrounding dune landscape and nearby flower fields colour the North Holland countryside; and come evening, the beach becomes all yours.

Cycling routes, water sports on the Camperduin Lagoon and day trips to Alkmaar – with its well-known cheese market - and Haarlem are on the agenda. Head to Bergen for art and culture, or to Schoorl to take on the famous climbing dune.

Landal De Weelderik, Hengelo, Gelderland, The Netherlands (Now open)

The Achterhoek is the kind of region that rewards the traveller who takes the time to discover its rolling countryside littered with historic estates, working farms and castles.

The small-scale but premium Landal De Weelderik makes the most of its setting, but what sets it apart are the heated private outdoor swimming pools that come with every villa - plus a private sauna, a BBQ, and a wine climate controlled cabinet in the modern kitchen. Play a game of padel on the padel court or choose your favourite sport on the multi-court.

The resort generates more energy than it consumes on sunny days, with surplus solar power stored by an on-site battery system and water purified through a natural helophyte filter. The Hanseatic towns of Zutphen and Doesburg are close enough for a day of local culture and culinary exploration.

Landal Roodewoud, Drenthe, The Netherlands (Now open)

Drenthe is a province largely unknown to foreign visitors. Its vast heathlands, prehistoric Hunebedden (megalithic tombs older than Stonehenge) and ancient forests form the backdrop for Landal Roodewoud, a deliberately intimate resort that sits within the National Park Drentsche Aa.

The wooden lodges are built to disappear into the landscape; and feature a private sauna or hot tub, with designs maximising light and the sense of immersion in nature. Facilities include a padel court and multi-court for an option of sports.

A great option for walkers who can step straight onto the Pieterpad, one of the Netherlands' great long-distance trails, from their front door.

Landal Brinckerduyn, Appelscha, Friesland, The Netherlands (Now open)

At Landal Brinckerduyn, the Drents-Friese Wold is literally on your doorstep offering a chance to explore one of the largest contiguous nature reserves in the Netherlands.

Guests stay in detached timber-built homes - some with private sauna, private hot tub or even a heated private outdoor swimming pool!

The resort offers space, tranquillity and modern luxury for those who want to consciously slow down, close to nature.

Enjoy Padel, hockey, football and pétanque, and children can jump, dive, tumble and hop their way through the water playground filled with fun obstacles — also known as the “Children’s Jungle”, while older kids can challenge each other in the panna cage.

Landal De Wielsche Dreef, Betuwe, Gelderland, The Netherlands (Opening 31 July 2026)

The Betuwe is orchard country, offering extraordinary views in spring when the blossom comes alive. Landal's newest resort, De Wielsche Dreef, opens in summer 2026 with contemporary holiday homes in a village-style setting ranging from two-person wellness retreats to large family and group houses sleeping twelve. Accommodation faces out over the open valley with generous outdoor space.

A ferry crossing over the Lower Rhine opens up the wooded Utrechtse Heuvelrug; Amerongen Castle, Ouwehands Dierenpark and the Airborne Museum at Oosterbeek to visitors - all within easy reach.
